Hi! I’m a creator and, in effect, an artist. At any given time, I’m working on two or three projects simultaneously. If you have any questions or would like to collaborate, please reach out!
I was incredibly lucky as kid to be exposed to science, technology, and manufacturing early. The most notable being the Suncoast Science Center / Faulhaber Fab Lab, where I volunteered throughout high school. They are a fantastic community resource that provide otherwise inaccessible resources to community members and students. In combination with them and my highschool I learned the fundamentals of 3D modeling, vector graphic design, CNC milling, lasercutting, 3D printers, and conventional woodworking tools.
I started college in fall of 2021 at the University of Central Florida, planning on aerospace engineering. As things went on I discovered the photonics program at UCF CREOL where I began a bachelors in Photonic Science & Engineering. For the uninitiated photonics is the manipulation and coupling of photons and electrical systems.
As part of my degree I chose the MEMS elective. MEMS stands for MicroElectroMechanicalSystems, aka tiny springs that solve problems. The class was taught by Dr. Jaesung Lee and showed me the perfect blend of mechanics, electronics, optics, photonics, biology, materials science, etc… that I had been looking for. So I joined his lab where I have been working on levitation based accelerometer tech. Long term I want to make my way into the field of photonic Bio-MEMS as its essentially magic.
Overall I am a engineering project fiend. I am slowly building my own lab from affordable options and trying to make those resources available. My goal in life is to provide the same resources and space that I have been afforded. I love teaching and helping people build stuff they are proud of. If you need any help or want to work together on a project please please reach out I’d love to hear about your work.
Have an excellent day,
— Kiva M.
